day 19: condensed full practice

30 minutes - quick essential poses

this morning, i feel like we took a full practice and crammed it into 30 minutes. we started with 3 sun salutations, did a couple standing poses (warrior 2 and triangle), balanced in mountain, transitioned into seated poses and ended in hero.

for me, i would have chosen a different series of poses, but the flow made sense. i just didn't care for the seated poses we did. apparently so much so that i can't remember what they were. meh.

maybe instead of doing an online class, i'll take some time this evening to design my own practice. i bet i can come up with a series that takes 30 minutes, follows a similar pattern and takes the path i want to take.

maybe that will be my challenge within my challenge. do you have any tips for planning a practice?

  1. i practice on my own more than not. sometimes i just need someone to tell me what to do, but most of the time, i enjoy being able to really move to my own breath without feeling rushed or forced to move through poses that i dont feel like doing that day.

i usually do ~5 sun salutations and then a few with the warrior poses in the middle.... until i feel warmed up or ready to move on ;) most commonly, i go through the sivananda series of asanas: http://www.sivananda.org/teachings/asana/12-basic-asanas.html

also, you gave me a fold-out card last year (?) with the primary series of poses that has been good.

sometimes i incorporate sequences that i remember from various videos or classes, but mostly i just do whatever i feel like that day.

hope that helps some. when i can relax into my own practice, not rushing myself to just get through it, i come away feeling the most relaxed and satisfied. i dont always hold individual poses as long as i might in a class, but i try to remember to.

ps. hope you had a nice birthday.

pps. i cant believe tomorrow is may 1st!?!
